Do you have an Instagram account? Are you wondering how you can analyse the impact of your Instagram activities?
In this post, you will learn how you can use Instagram Insights to find out more about your followers and shape your Instagram business strategy accordingly.
Instagram Insights – Overview
If you are already using Instagram to promote your business, you would know that the app has over one billion monthly users. Moreover, it is known for engagement. The app’s engagement has been measured between four to twelve times compared with other social channels. But you cannot find out how this engagement affects your business without using data.
To analyse your follower’s data, here is how you can use Instagram Insights. But first, let’s look at what is Instagram Insights.
It is Instagram’s native data-tracking tool. It allows Instagram business profile users to track their followers’ preferred content, demographics and actions. Using these analytics, you can find out why some of your posts perform better than others. The best part is you can use all of this information to tweak your Instagram strategy to better cater to your audience’s needs and eventually benefit your business.
The data you get using Instagram Insights brings you some of the most user-friendly information that you can understand. The data comes with a brief explanation of precisely what the data means. So even if you are new to interpreting data and viewing performance statistics, you can still use this information and improve your results right away.
How to Use Instagram Insights for Your Business?
Here is how you can use Instagram Insights for your business.
Have a Business Profile
To use Instagram’s built-in analytics tool, you must have a business account. If you currently do not have a business account but are using a personal account, you can switch to a business profile. For that, you will need a Facebook page for your business. In case you don’t have one, Instagram will give you an option to create a Facebook page during this process.
Here you must remember that if you switch your business account back to a personal one anytime in future, you will lose all of your Insights data.
View Insights
Once you have a business profile, you have to tap on the “Insights” tab in the Instagram app, and you will see a few metrics at first glance. The main information categories include the following:
Recent Highlights
The statistics initially show a summarized version of data for the content you have posted during the last seven days. Moreover, it provides a comparison to your data from the previous period. For example, “You received 75% more content interactions in the last seven days.”
Overview
The overview gives you information about the number of people who have seen and interacted with your posts, stories and videos. Moreover, it tells you about the actions they took on your page (like, share, save and comment) and the total number of followers you have. You can view the following three critical metrics for multiple posts or have a detailed insight into the individual posts.
- Accounts Reached,
- Content Interactions, and
- Total Followers.
You don’t only get to see the total number for each metric, but you also get information about the percentage by which it has increased or decreased over the last week. For more information about specific metrics, you can tap on individual metrics. Let’s look at each of the three metrics individually.
Accounts Reached
It allows you to see how well your content has performed by positioning your top-performing posts, stories, and videos by reach. Moreover, you can view how many people have:
- Viewed the content on Instagram.
- Visited your Business Profile on Instagram or your website.
- Tapped the call-to-action button on your Instagram profile.
You can find some more insights within the category, including
Impressions – the number of times your posts were viewed.
- Top Posts – Top posts that generated most the engagement and reach.
- Top Stories – Top stories that generated the most engagement and reach.
- Top IGTV Videos – Top IGTV videos that generated the most engagement and reach.
Content Interactions
With content interactions Insights, you can find out how people have interacted with your posts, stories, and videos in more detail and see what actions they are taking. Are there more likes, comments, saves, shares, or replies for individual posts? Using this Insight, you can find out the posts and content that is getting the most interactions.
Total Followers
The feature doesn’t only tell you the total followers for your profile. But like all other insights, it also shows you how many followers you have gained or lost (if any) in the last 7 days. Moreover, you can also get an insight into your follower’s demographics, geographical location and the time when they are most active on Instagram.
So you get an insight on when is the best time is to post on Instagram and where your audience is geographically located.
Discover
Use Discover to see where your post was seen — or discovered — the most. With this information, you can also find out how many new accounts are now following you, that were not following you when they initially saw the post.
With this Insight, you get data on Impressions, reflecting the number of times your post was discovered from a specific place within Instagram. For example, your user’s home feed, your account profile, a hashtag or a location.
Exits
With this Insight, you can find the number of times a user leaves the Stories section altogether and return to the home feed.
